Town Hall with Jim Huggins for Governor

  • Share:
Name: Town Hall with Jim Huggins for Governor
Date: November 6, 2021
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM PDT
Website: Learn More about Jim
Event Description:

If you’re frustrated with politicians who don’t listen to real people and ignore common sense in dealing with our challenges, this is your opportunity to directly impact the thinking of a man who may be Oregon’s next governor.  Come & share your firsthand experiences regarding the impact of current Oregon law and policies with Jim Huggins, Republican candidate for Governor.

We'd like to hear your perspective and experience with how current government policy and ideology is affecting your workplace AND any question, you would like to ask Jim regarding his perspective or approach to your concerns.  We will be selecting at least one representative from each field to share a brief perspective at the event and then ask their questions in person -- we'll have a moderator there who will present comments and questions, so even if you are not able to attend we'd appreciate your input. Just to give you an example of some questions, the assistant to the superintendent to the St. Helen's public school district asked:
  • In July of this year, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 744 which suspended the standard essential skills requirements as a condition for high school graduation.  How would you address this bill and invest in the current and post-secondary success of students in Oregon?
  • The Portland City Council eliminated funding for a unit of Portland Police that dealt with gang gun violence and predictably, shootings, murders and violent behavior has dramatically increased. How would you as Governor deal with Portland’s leaders making such bad decisions?
So, again, we'd like to invite you to attend and if you can't be there, anything you can offer in your absence would be appreciated and if you know of someone else in your field who may be interested in attending or contributing, please pass this on to them.  And, just so you know, this will not be high profile --no major news media-- event, so right now, we're inviting those who we believe will want to get behind Jim and his campaign for governor.

Meet The Candidate

2:00-2:05 pm  Introduction of Governor Candidate Jim Huggins

2:05-2:30 pm Jim Huggins talks about who he is, his story, why he is running for governor, why he believes he can win, and his vision for making “government do what it is supposed to do” as governor of Oregon.

Church

2:30-2:50  Perspective and questions from pastors regarding, protection religious liberty and the essential role of the church in the wellbeing and prosperity our State

Over the last couple decades but especially since the beginning of Covid lockdowns in 2020 pastors and churches have experienced a reality where religious liberties have been considered dispensable in favor of other priorities and agendas. The Founding Fathers felt that religious liberties were so essential to the success and prosperity of our nation that they built the free exercise of religion, including the right to assemble for worship and the right to preach and teach ideas that may be contrary to public opinion into the foundation of our constitution and laws. As Governor would you be willing to take on a culture in Oregon government that not only does not consider religious rights vital or important but sees them as opposition. What would you do to reinforce the rights and liberties guaranteed in the constitution particularly the to gather and worship and the freedom of speech that empowers us to freely proclaim beliefs that may contradict ever changing political opinion? As Governor, what would your policy toward mandates to churches and their gatherings be?

  • Pastor Micah Askew
  • Pastor Steve Trujillo
  • Response from Candidate
Business - Downtown Portland

2:50-3:10  Perspective and questions from business owner impacted by anarchy/protests, Lockdowns, and the homeless crisis

Many businesses in the state but especially in the downtown Portland are experiencing extreme hardship and in some cases now failing because of numerous policies affecting the safety and desirability of doing business in downtown Portland. Speaking specifically about crime, filth, and the humanitarian crisis currently manifesting in Portland, How will you use the office of Governor to influence a return to health and vibrancy in the Portland Metro area? Responses and lack of response to riots and criminal behavior under the guise of protests has threatened business and property owners and activities including church gatherings -- how would guide policy addressing violent and destructive “protests”.

  • Eric Murfit (manager/owner of The Mercantile)
  • Pastor Steve Trujullo (pastor of Fathers House church focused in downtown area)
  • Response from Candidate
Law Enforcement

3:00-3:20  Perspective and questions from a veteran police officer of the Portland police bureau regarding Oregon’s policy and its affects on Law enforcement and public safety.

Whether because simply because of perception driven by media coverage or because of a reality of poor judgement or prejudicial treatment on the part of departments and officers, Police are facing dramatic reduction in both staffing and authorization to forcefully and proactively respond to and target violent criminal behavior. The Portland city council eliminated funding for a unit of Portland Police that dealt with gang gun violence and predictably, shootings, murders and violent behavior has dramatically increased. How would you as Governor deal with Portland’s leaders making such bad decisions?

  • Anonymous Portland Police Sergeant with over 20 years on the Portland police force
  • Possibly a representatives from “Voices behind the badge”
  • Response from CandidateEducation

3:20-3:40  Perspective and questions from educators on how Oregon's policy is affecting schools and our children’s education.

In many schools throughout the state objective tests measuring the academic success of our education system show that more and more that even students who graduate are leaving the system unequipped with the basic academic skills and knowledge needed for success as adults.

The education priorities of many politicians, Teachers Unions, and some schools have dramatically shifted toward social agendas and they do not want to be held accountable to objective measures of success in basics like math, science, reading and writing and are eliminating the testing requirements. In July of this year, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 744 which suspended the standard essential skills requirements as a condition for high school graduation.  How would you address this bill and invest in the current and post-secondary success of students in Oregon?

  • Kristy Ward; Assistant to Public school superintendent
  • Veteran Teachers perspective (pending availability of Teacher)
  • Response from Candidate
Affordable Housing and Homelesness

3:40-3:55  Perspective and questions from transitional housing and low income/disaster relief housing, and homeless crisis leaders.

The rapid increase of the homeless population now seen on almost every street, sidewalk, park and under every bridge in Oregon’s cities is a crisis rooted in everything from the need for spiritual awakening to our failure to stop the highly profitable and aggressive illegal drug trade. However, it’s also evident that the cost of housing is causing more and more families and young adults to find themselves unable to afford to rent or buy housing especially in the metropolitan areas where most jobs are available. However we’re now seeing that organizations like Bybee Lakes Hope center (James Autry) and other affordable housing initiatives (Pat Olsen) are finding that large amounts of both private and public funding are available to address the issue. As Governor, how would you help insure that the people with the best ideas and solutions, those that encourage free market economics and a good work ethic will be supported and backed and those who are using the crisis to push socialist agendas are not put into positions of influence and given the resources available to solve these problems?

  • James Autry on staff with Bybee Lakes Hope center (Large privately funded transitional housing project in Portland), Home building and disaster relief industry leader Pat Olsen (not able to attend) -low income housing
  • Response from Candidate
