Event Description:
Speaker and author Soorin Backer will be signing books at the Cottage Grove Public Library on Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 from 4-7 PM.
Soorin is the author of The Women in Jesus’ Life. Her book uses story form, analysis, and Scripture as it looks at the life of 10 women known through interactions with Jesus or through his genealogy. Some of the familiar stories in the Bible about Jesus’ interactions with women can be pretty challenging to understand.
Soorin’s book “is one women’s effort to decipher the heart of the Savior when He dealt with the brokenness, insecurities, and needs of women in the Bible.”
Soorin is a Eugene resident. She attended Fuller Theological Seminary in the Ph.D. Program for Clinical Psychology and completed Master of Arts in Theology and in Clinical Psychology. She has served as a youth pastor in three churches. She has also served as the coordinator for Lifeway’s simulcasts in her church. For several years she has led Bible studies for women, taught studies on the fundamentals of Christian beliefs, and led DVD-based studies. At this time she serves as the Vice President of Mighty Women of Vision and speaks at women’s retreats and conferences. Soorin is happily married to Cottage Grove dentist, Dr. Jonathan Backer. They have four (cherished) children.
