Greeters is the largest and most active business networking group in the Salem area. Attendance ranges from 125 to 175 participants each meeting. There’s no better way to make contacts, form professional relationships and get your products and services out in front of others.
Held Fridays from 8:30 to 10am, members congregate at a different Chamber member’s location each meeting. Greeters is designed to maximize members’ networking opportunities with features like self-introductions, new member introductions, 2-minute testimonials, host interviews and printed announcements.
Lively and uplifting, attending Greeters keeps members connected to what’s going on in the Chamber business community and who’s new to the organization. Door prizes promote members’ businesses as well.
Hosting Greeters:
Any Chamber member whose place of business can accommodate 150-200 people seated, with additional space for registration and information, can host a Greeters meeting. Parking for 125 cars or more is required as well. If a member’s location cannot accommodate the group, the Chamber will secure an alternative location at no cost to the host. Hosts also provide coffee, juice and other appropriate breakfast beverages and items like fruits, pastries and donuts. The host is featured in an interview conducted by the Greeters chair.
Greeters Announcements:
The "Greeters Announcements" flyers are used by members to promote events, activities and new products and services. Announcements in 45 words or less can be e-mailed to greeters {at} salemchamber.org, and announcement forms are available at the meetings or can be faxed by calling the Chamber office at 503-581-1466.
These guidelines are designed to make your Greeters experience positive and productive:
Self-introductions: Please limit self-introductions to your name, the name of your business and your special "tagline." Attendees are also asked to be appropriate and professional in their comments and to remain quiet and attentive and courteous while others have the floor. No announcements are allowed during self-introductions.
New Members: As a new member, you will be identified with a red dot on your name tag in order to help other Greeters identify new contacts to network with. Fill out a "New Member Card" at the door and give it to one of the Greeters Team members. All new members who fill out the card will be introduced and interviewed by the Greeters Chair.
Guests: Guests may attend Greeters twice before they join the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. All guests are asked to fill out a "Guest Card" and may be introduced by the member they attend with. Your name tag will be marked with a blue dot. Guests will not be interviewed and are asked not to make announcements about their business during self introductions.
Donations: Members are encouraged to donate $1 at the door in order to be eligible to win door prizes at the end of each Greeters meeting. This money is used for Holiday Food Baskets, Gift of the Heart, and other charitable functions of Greeters.
Door Prizes: Door prizes are a great way to promote your business. Please make sure your gift is valued at $10 or more. Coupons or gift certificates used for door prizes must not require purchase restrictions of any kind. Members are allowed to bring only one door prize each meeting.
Political Statements: The Salem Chamber wants to keep Greeters a place where people feel free to enjoy what Greeters is all about - networking. Please keep personal political campaigns and slogans from becoming the focus when you are given the microphone for the purpose of your self-introduction.
Cell Phones & Pagers: Please use common courtesy regarding cell phones, radios and pagers during the meeting. In other words, turn them off!
