Event Description:

This is perhaps the most important Gospel Gathering we’ve had in the last 15 years. Why? Because it’s getting to the root of a very deep, but usually unspoken and uncomfortable issue of racism that plagues us as a Church. This is a Gospel issue that speaks to the heart of what we do as we attempt to pray, serve, and share the Good News in our city. Many of us have not listened well to our Black and Brown brothers and sisters, and we’ve been far too willing to run ahead with plans without including every part of the Body. In this way we’ve failed as leaders.
This is a time not only for empathy and lament, but for advocacy. Perhaps we will look back and see this as an important tipping point for the collective church in Portland. A time where the whole Body began to repair what’s been fractured and became a force for justice, healing, and equity. This is certainly what we've been praying for - that hearts will be changed and relationships be made whole. It starts with listening and learning from leaders who have suffered oppression and injustice.
We are eager for this pastoral conversation to allow us to listen to our leaders of color with a posture of learning and repentance. Please join us and bring as many leaders from your community as you can. We will hear from:
- Reverend Dr. LeRoy Haynes, Jr. - Allen Temple CME Church
- Michelle Jones - Imago Dei
- Eric Knox -HOLLA
- Michelle Lang - Warner Pacific University
- Mark Strong - Life Change Church
- John Mark Comer - Bridgetown Church Rick McKinley - Imago Dei
Grateful for all of you,
