Event Description:

Join us for the 30th Annual Portland Business Luncheon with guest speaker Ambassador Tony Hall.  Three times nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, former U.S. Ambassador Tony P. Hall is one of the world’s most outspoken advocates for the poor and hungry. He served under President George W. Bush as U.S. Ambassador to the Untied Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture, and currently is the Executive Director Emeritus of the Alliance to End Hunger.

Prior to his diplomatic work, Hall was a member of the United States House of Representatives, representing the Third District of Ohio (Dayton) for twelve terms. He was a founding member of the Select Committee on Hunger and served as its Chairman from 1989 to 1993. In response to the abolishment of the Hunger Committee in 1993, Hall went on a hunger strike, fasting for twenty-two days to draw attention to the needs of hungry people in the United States and around the world. In his efforts to witness firsthand the plight of the poor and hungry, he has traveled to more than 100 countries, visiting several poverty- stricken regions around the world.

As Ambassador, Hall represented America’s effort in alleviating hunger worldwide, working in Rome with the World Food Program, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and International Fund for Agriculture Development. In 2006, he published his memoir, Changing the Face of Hunger: One Man’s Story of How Liberals, Conservatives, Democrats, Republicans and People of Faith Are Joining Forces to Help the Hungry, the Poor, the Oppressed.

Hall and his wife, Janet, live in Arlington, Virginia, where they raised two children.

Portland Business Luncheons believes Mr. Hall’s visit to Portland, has the potential to encourage new relationships between our city officials, business professionals and citizen activists, resulting in positive, lasting change.

We would be honored to have you and your friends join us for what we believe will be a high impact time, of reconciliation and encouragement.
