Event Description:

Dear Pastor,
As Christian leaders it’s impossible not to be concerned about the state of marriage and families in our nation. We also believe that Christianity, with its appeals to selfless love, inherent joy and reliance on the Holy Spirit, provides the best hope for building family and relationship success in the future.
That’s why we’re inviting you to join us in an innovative effort that has the potential to strengthen relationships, both in our churches and in our larger community. It’s called Date Night Challenge PDX. It’s a citywide, month-long initiative built on a partnership of Portland\Vancouver area merchants, government bodies, community based organizations and local churches.
Studies have found that relationships that include consistent dating fare far better than those that don’t. These benefits hold true for virtually all relationships, including married couples, friendships, romantically interested couples and relationships between parents and their children. In other words, dating is good.
A Unique Opportunity for Local Churches to Shine
Of course we’re supportive of any effort to strengthen Portland/Vancouver area marriages, families and appropriate relationships. But we’re especially enthused about two unique opportunities Date Night Challenge PDX holds for local churches.
First, Date Night Challenge PDX and its citywide emphasis on relationships provide an ideal backdrop for pastors to reinforce Christian principles that lead to marriage and relationship success. This can be accomplished through a variety of ways, including weekend messages, adult classes, youth group discussions and small group resources.
Secondly, Date Night Challenge PDX organizers are encouraging churches to promote their relationship-strengthening activities through the datenightpdx.com website and a nifty mobile app. It’s a way to invite non-church couples to benefit from the resources and support within a church family.
God has granted Portland/Vancouver churches growing favor in recent years as we’ve endeavored to serve and partner with our community and its leaders. This has been particularly exemplified through the Palau Association’s “Seasons of Service.” We view Date Night Challenge PDX as a similar effort offered in the same spirit. Please consider joining us in this relationship strengthening outreach.
To learn more, please attend (or send a staff representative) to one of two Date Night Challenge PDX briefings.
Sincerely in Christ,
