Oregon Day of Repentance
Proclaiming an Oregon Day of Repentance and Solemn Assembly
WHEREAS: Oregon has been defiled by the shedding of innocent blood through murders, through abortion, including the use of tax dollars to fund abortion and incinerating the remains of aborted babies with garbage to generate electricity, and through legalized euthanasia, being the first state in the United States to do so, … and
WHEREAS: There is a long history of broken covenants in Oregon, including with First Nations people, up to the present time with rampant divorce … and
WHEREAS: Sexual immorality is socially accepted, a large portion of the Church consumes pornography, marriage laws have been changed and force those who stand for sexual purity to violate their conscience or be penalized contrary to the Oregon Constitution Article 1 Section 3, and children are taught in the public schools that immoral sexual behavior should be accepted … and
WHEREAS: People of God in Oregon commit idolatry by having hearts devoted to things and pursuit of pleasures as evidenced by the way the gifts of God – time, talent, and treasure – are used, they forsake the assembling of themselves together as instructed in Hebrews 10:24, they trust in riches rather than the LORD, and they are prideful rather than thankful to the Father who gives every good gift … and
WHEREAS: People who say they belong to Christ Jesus are entangled much in the world, show by their actions that they love money more than God, have divorce rates, abortion rates, practice or accept sexual immorality with similar rates as those who don’t know God so that there is little to distinguish Christians as followers of Jesus, and have failed to pray for those in authority abandoning our government and schools to those who don’t know God … and
WHEREAS: By mid summer of 2015 twenty of Oregon’s thirty-six counties have been declared drought areas eligible for federal assistance … and
WHEREAS: Oregonians continue to use others and abuse themselves in numerous ways such as human trafficking, child abuse, domestic violence, and addictions to substances and pornography …and
WHEREAS: History is replete with incidents of these and other crises being positively addressed when the people commit themselves to a season of prayer, fasting and repentance without limit or agenda including but not limited to the Day of Prayer proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1787 during a deadlocked Constitutional Convention after which the deadlock was immediately broken, and the historic Day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer called for by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863 after which the Battle of Gettysburg occurred within weeks, turning the tide of war for the Union … and
WHEREAS: September 10 is the day after the California Day of Repentance and the day before the Washington Day of Repentance, therefore a natural day for succeeding days of repentance on the West Coast, … and
WHEREAS: Oregon’s Constitution begins with the following preamble: “We the people of the State of Oregon to the end that Justice be established, order maintained, and liberty perpetuated, do ordain this Constitution” and Proverbs 29:26 tells us that “it is from the LORD that one gets justice” … THEREFORE BE IT
RESOLVED: That September 10, 2015, be declared and observed an Oregon Day of Repentance by all who are willing to participate. Oregonians are urged to spend all or part of this day re-focusing their attention and re-dedicating their lives to the pursuit of God in humility and hunger for His revelation in their lives … and BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED: That as Oregonians seek God’s blessing for ourselves and for our state we recognize and honor the LORD God Who resurrected the nation of Israel – His first chosen people – two millennia after her total destruction. We stand with Israel in awe and honor of the Author of her restoration and humbly ask Him to do likewise for us.
