Mission ConneXion - Board Governance ConneXion
An effective, Spirit-led Board of Directors can greatly enhance the ministry they are responsible for, and keep it out of trouble. But what is the proper role of a member of the Board? What are the best practices for relationships between the Board, the Board Chairman, the President, and the Staff? How can participating on a Board be a challenging and deeply satisfying experience, giving a true sense of serving the Lord?

Mission ConneXion Northwest has the mission of mobilizing the Body of Christ in the churches of the Pacific Northwest to serve the Lord on mission fields all over the world. That happens best when sending agencies are well led, not only by the head of the agency and its staff, but by an informed, dedicated Board of Directors. In 2013, Mission ConneXion is offering another ConneXion event – Board Governance ConneXion.
This year's workshop will be presented by Dave Coleman, former program director for the M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust (for the past 8 years), and now President of BoardTrek, a board consulting group. Having evaluated hundreds of non-profit organizations applying to the Murdock Trust for grants and written on the subject himself, Dave will lead the attendees through the exercises that make for best practices in governance.
Daniel Harkavy, chairman of the Board of Ministry Coaching International, had this to say about Dave Coleman: "The process of Board Governance was somewhat of a mystery to me before having the opportunity to work with Dave Coleman. Dave partnered with our board and helped us to better understand our roles, functions and responsibilities as board members. I would highly recommend Dave to any board Chair who is wanting to bring more clarity to their board and organization. His format and process works."
Greg Stamm, a Portland area business owner, and chairman of the Board of Mission ConneXion, said this: "... I am the chairman of a nonprofit board. With the addition of several new board members and many policies/standards to be implemented, we sought out Dave Coleman of BoardTrek to give us council, insight, and direction. In a 1 day customized teaching by Dave, we received all of this and more. Dave not only outlined the fundamentals of board governance but also provided samples of the many policies and standards that are the basis of effective governing boards. I highly recommend Dave Coleman and the BoardTrek program."
