Event Description:
What does God, the Mayor and the FBI have in common?

Our special guest speaker for September is Chuck McLaran, former Mayor of Albany.

A usual question asked of a person after they have stated they are retired is, “What did you do before you retired?” When I am asked that question and I answer that I had a career in the FBI, a usual response is, “That must have been exciting”.  The life of an FBI Agent can be at times exciting, at other times tedious, at other times boring, but it is never uninteresting. One thing which always has stayed with me is my religion and a belief in God. This has helped me in many aspects of life and has provided me with the abilities to work through many different situations. I know that the “hand of God” has guided me through various periods in my life.  As I look back on my FBI career, and my time later as a former Mayor of Albany, I realize that I have been faced with many perplexing choices.  It was in those times that I asked God for guidance and he provided it.  It may not have been the easiest answer to the choice I was facing at the time, but it was always the right answer.  My wife, Kathy, and I have three children; two sons and a daughter, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Kathy and I enjoy gardening reading, and traveling and sight-seeing. I am active in the Albany Rotary Club as and enjoy the comradeship of its members.  I also enjoy sharing with others the miraculous things God has done in my life.  Watching television is also relaxing for me, and enjoying the police shows even though they portray a false impression of how things are done in the law enforcement community.  In the former series, “The FBI” starring Efrem Zimbalist Jr., there was an episode featuring a case on which I had worked.  In the story Zimbalist made reference to some new information which had been found.  What was not shown, or told, was that it took over six months of work to develop that information.  Not everything is exactly as it appears on television!  I am looking forward to being the guest speaker at the Christian Chamber meeting, where I can share stories of my years with the FBI and as a former Mayor of Albany and how God guided me along the way.

This meeting is designed to help you build your network, wherein you will be invited to introduce yourself & your organization during the meeting, as well as meet with other guests & members before & after the meeting. There will also be a short presentation regarding the Chamber, as well as a special guest speaker in regards to a topic designed to help you Connect, Learn, Grow, Save &/or Engage with your community.
