Event Description:
Coaches and athletes lead, direction matters. Sports has the power to change, challenge and transform cultures and communities. The Coaching and Marriage Weekend is one of the most significant events that Western Oregon - Fellowship of Christian Athletes hosts every year, because we believe that this weekend away can transform more than a marriage. It can change the trajectory of a family, of a school, of a community. See highlights from our 2019 event (Watch Video)
Why invest in coaches?
The late Billy Graham said that a coach will impact more people in a year than the average person does in a lifetime. A coach’s words can breathe life and vision into a young athlete’s heart. To be a coach today, means more than just making someone bigger, faster and stronger. It’s about coaching the mind and the heart of athletes, about creating safe spaces to be known for more than what you do on the court or field. This requires more time, more mental and emotional energy from families and spouses.
Who’s caring for coaches?
So many people are coming to a coach with a want or a need, and not enough are stepping in to support and care for the coach and their family. The divorce rate among college coaches is higher than the national average. The time demands, especially in season, can divide and build resentment in a marriage and family if not addressed early on. We believe, that to be a coach, is a response to a calling God has on their life as a form of ministry, and ministry flows from a healthy heart which starts at home. FCA is stepping in to serve this group, coach to coach and spouse to spouse. Creating an environment for real conversations, with people who understand the drive and demands of job and practical teaching that you can apply to your lives. Watch a testimony from Coaching Couple
Two of the most powerful words you can hear is “Coach says.” Our dream is that coaches would choose to model strong family values to all whom they influence. That a coach’s marriage would be unified and strengthened by attending this event.
