Our special guest speaker is Ramona Mathany, who believes that several years ago, God planted a vision in her heart and mind — a vision of a staffing agency that would enhance the lives of its employees and serve its clients with integrity. That vision became All Star Labor & Staffing, based in Portland and with four locations in Oregon and northern California.
When Mathany began volunteering in the women’s prison system eight years ago, she saw a need she believed she could help meet. When incarcerated individuals are released to start a new life, they often meet many challenges. Their prior incarceration not only presents social and financial challenges, but also becomes a significant barrier to the very thing that could improve their situation — entry into the job market. Mathany has a heart for this population, and she wants to help them overcome the employment hurdle and avoid the “revolving door” of incarceration. She made it her mission to seek out companies who were willing to partner with her to give those with a history of incarceration a second opportunity for success. A significant portion of All Star’s employees have backgrounds, but are committed to living a new kind of life.
Mathany graduated from the University of Portland in social work in 1992, and has never had any formal business training. In 1993, Mathany committed her life to Christ at a Billy Graham crusade. She lives in Lake Oswego with husband Jim and their four children. The Mathanys have been in the professional employer organization business for 16 years, providing small businesses with payroll, human resources, worker’s compensation and administrative services.
