Christian Chamber - Mid-Willamette Valley Meeting
Our special guest speaker for January is Ron Heagy. He was a star football and wrestling athlete at Central Linn High School near Brownsville when he went on a Spring break surfing vacation to Huntington Beach in California. On the day before his 18th birthday he dove into the water and was pushed to the bottom where he hit his head on a sandbar. That day would change the direction of the rest of his life.
Ron woke up in a hospital a quadriplegic, unable to move his body from the neck down. When the simple track might be to simply give up, he found a source of inspiration from his father's faith and his mother who pushed him into learning to paint. Ron developed an artistic talent he never knew he had by painting beautiful artwork holding the brush in his mouth, dipping it in paint and creating his vision on canvas. Ron now owns and operates Oregon's first mouth-painted art gallery on First Ave in downtown Albany.
He was soon telling his story to groups and even wrote a book about his life. His desire to help disabled children led to the development of Camp Attitude in east Linn County. His story is one of how, through his faith and determination he developed his skills as an artist.
