How Can Understanding Postmodernism Help Make Your Life and Business More Profitable?
In the last 30 years our culture has undergone a seismic shift from modern to postmodern. This shift has impacted every area of life including the way people approach truth, reality, and faith. In the last three decades 75% of the population of the US, which means three out of four Americans, have radically changed the way they think and feel about God, church, and spirituality! As Christians we need to understand our times. We need to understand our culture in order to know how to share our faith in a way that will be understood by those we are trying to reach.
Our special guest speaker for October is Roger Gerhing of Professionally Speaking. Roger was born in Salem, Oregon, grew up on a farm just outside of Silverton, attended Silverton Union High and then earned a B.A. degree from Oregon College of Education in Monmouth in 1972. He then joined the staff with Campus Crusade for Christ, initially at Arizona State University and then for 20 years in Germany in an outreach to university students. While in Germany he studied theology at the University of Tübingen finishing with a Ph.D. in New Testament Studies. The Gehrings were on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ for a total of 35 years.
In 2006 Roger and his wife, Claudia left CCC and started their own nonprofit called Professionally Speaking, Inc. which is a ministry outreach to business professionals here in Portland. They have been married for 38 years and they have 3 grown children: Stephanie, Matthis and Hannes. In January 2013, he and his son Matthis began a new church plant here in Portland called Soli Deo Gloria.
