Our special guest speakers for June are Terry Dalke, Executive Director of Strategic Employee Benefits Services of Oregon and Sam Thannickal, President of Paragon Payroll & HR, Inc. Terry & Sam will provide a basic overview of the Health Care Reform Act, provide some general answers to frequently asked questions and allow you to view the law through a bit clearer lens. This law will affect Individuals, Employer Groups ( with Compliance oversight, Plan complexity and Add taxes/Higher premiums) & Consultants (with many moving parts & 15,000 pages of regulation).
Some of the common questions to be addressed are . . .
- Where did the idea of Reform originate and what is its purpose?
- What is driving the need for Reform?
- How will Reform affect me and my employees?
- Am I obligated to provide health insurance coverage to my employees?
- I've heard about the "Exchange", What is it?
Terry Dalke, RHU, REBC has been involved in the insurance industry for the past 38 years. After forming and running a successful insurance agency for over 19 years, he sold his practice to SEBS and joined them as Executive Director in October 2008. Terry’s experience includes sales and management positions with two major insurance companies, as well as insurance agencies. In addition to earning various sales and service awards, Terry served as President of the Oregon Association of Health Underwriters.
Sam Thannickal, EA, MT has been in Tax, Finance/Accounting field for 30 plus years and obtained his CPA certificate several years ago. He has earned his Bachelors degree in accounting from Biola University and Masters in Tax from PSU School of Business. Paragon Payroll & HR, Inc. specializes in providing full service payroll, related tax compliance and HR for small to medium size companies (1-1000 employees). They also specialize in non-profits and church payroll & reporting. Sam is also enrolled to practice before IRS on Tax matters especially related to employment. He currently serves on several non-profit boards and has served on Institute of Management Accountants Board in Portland and is an active member of National Society of Accountants.
This "Lunch & Learn" meeting is designed for connecting, wherein you are invited to introduce yourself & your organization to other members & guests before & after the meeting. There will also be a short presentation regarding the Chamber, as well as a special guest speaker in regards to a topic designed to help you Connect, Learn, Grow, Save &/or Engage with your community.
