Our special guest speaker for March is Bill Perkins sharing about his amazing journey with the Jesus Experiment. Bill Perkins' wit, insight, and penetrating stories have made him a compelling voice in the Christian community. He has authored or collaborated on 20 books, including Awaken the Leader Within, The Handbook to Leadership, When Good Men are Tempted, Six Battles Every Man Must Win, 6 Rules Every Man Must Break, When Good Men Get Angry, and The Jesus Experiment. He is the founder and CEO of Million Mighty Men and served as a senior pastor for 24 years. With his talent for humor, candor, and tackling tough issues head-on, Bill is a sought-after speaker for both Christian and corporate groups. He has addressed audiences around the world and conducted business and leadership seminars across the country for companies such as Alaska Airlines and McDonald's. He has led chapels for major league baseball teams, and appeared on nationally broadcast radio and television shows.
Bill and his wife Cindy live in West Linn, Oregon. They have three sons and two grand-children. Bill enjoys cooking, reading, writing, scuba diving, and working out with his dog (who runs on the treadmill while Bill lifts weights). Bill believes when we maintain a real-time connection with Christ our lives, and those we love, are transformed by God.

Jesus walked many paths and made many journeys. However, his most important walk ended on a hill outside of Jerusalem where he died on a cross... a cross he carried until a man from the crowd, a visitor to Jerusalem named Simon, was summoned to carry it for him. That walk and that death have impacted lives for over 2,000 years. Reel ahead to Saturday, April 19, 2014, when 900 people, in teams of three, will commit to carrying a cross, as Simon did. 300 life-size crosses will be carried from the Oregon Convention Center across the Steel Bridge, south along the water-front to the Hawthorne Bridge and then back again to the Oregon Convention Center south parking lot. Before the Cross Walk, please read the Jesus Experiment, a book that will connect them to Jesus and prepare them to fully experience the cross. The Jesus Experiment Cross Walk will culminate at the Oregon Convention Center south parking lot with a gathering of registered walkers, bands and speakers to reflect on the Cross and celebrate Easter.

Joyce is a clinical nurse specialist with over 40 years experience in adult psychiatric/mental health nursing. She relocated to Oregon from the Washington, DC/Northern VA area to be closer to family and has recently opened a private counseling practice in Tualatin, OR. She is currently serving as Board President of Jubilee Transition Homes in Tigard and volunteers counseling services with Good Samaritan Ministries in Beaverton. She has fully immersed herself in advancing the Kingdom of God in this corner of the world!
Joyce’s life has been spent serving God through serving others, the whole person, focusing on those who have been wounded, many with complex and serious mental health needs. Her experience has included both inpatient and outpatient settings in both private and public sectors. In addition to providing direct clinical care, she has served in management and leadership positions. Her master’s research focused on the effectiveness of spiritual coping strategies utilized by adult cancer patients. She has been trained as a volunteer hospital chaplain and has used her skills to integrate the spiritual dimension into mental health treatment in a variety of settings.
Joyce has served as a consultant on trauma training for a non-profit that has served in Bosnia and has extensive experience working with women who have been exploited and abused. She speaks to clergy, health care providers, and other groups interested in learning more about coming along side individuals dealing with grief, life threatening illnesses, those wounded by others or who are bearing consequences of their own choices, and advocacy for those struggling on the margins of society.
