Do you understanding business transitions through estate planning & ministry related issues?  Do you understand the Affordable Care Act provisions as they relate to your 2014 tax returns?


Our special guest speakers for February are Bill Sleasman, CPA & Allen Tanner of the William J. Sleasman, CPA firm.




Bill will address succession planning for business owners, estate planning for individuals and accounting issues churches face. 
  • Business owners are so often busy running their business that they do not take the necessary time to establish and implement a successful succession plan.  Without good planning they may not be in a position to maintain the lifestyle they had before retirement.
  • Individuals have many opportunities to reduce estate taxes so loved ones and ministries will benefit from the decedents hard work. 
  • Churches and other ministries need assistance in establishing an adequate internal control system. Accounting systems may need to be improved to provide accurate and timely financial information not only to their congregation, but to other users as well. 
Allen will explain the new reporting requirements of the Affordable Care Act as they apply in 2014.  An Advance Premium Tax Credit is available in some situations and a Shared Responsibility Payment is due in others.  Included in his presentation will be:
  • The credit is available for some taxpayers of lesser income who purchase their own coverage through the marketplace.
  • The payment applies if the taxpayer did not have required coverage.
  • Who in your household are you responsible for?
  • The Benefit of Health Savings Accounts.
  • How do these rules apply to those in ministry?
Please note:  In 2015, coverage must be purchased in the marketplace by February 15, which is prior to our presentation.

Allen Tanner joined the firm in 2008 and has since graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.  While he is currently sitting for the CPA exam he is providing clients with many services.  Allen is a QuickBooks Pro-Advisor and assists with QuickBooks installation, QuickBooks support and income tax compliance services.  Allen has developed working relationships with the majority of the firm’s clients and is a lifetime resident of Clackamas County.  In 2012, he married another Oregon native, Kira a Registered Nurse who works with children at a pediatric clinic.  Allen and Kira are both devout Christians.  He also serves on a worship team and often teaches children’s Sunday school.  They are both involved in a number of other activities with their church and community.  He can often be found helping underprivileged youth, hunting, camping and spending time with his family.  Above all, Allen wants to see Christ work through him to reach others.
 

William J. Sleasman, CPA graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and accepted a position with Price Waterhouse.  He left Price Waterhouse and opened his own practice so he could serve closely held family businesses.   In 1980, he moved the practice to Clackamas which is where it continues to operate today. 

Bill has been blessed to contribute to a number of Christian and civic organizations:
  • Founding Member of Christian Chamber Northwest.
  • Board Member of Valley View Evangelical Church for 15 years.
  • President of the University of Oregon honorary accounting fraternity, Beta Alpha Psi.
  • Director on the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce for 4 years.
  • Founding Member of the Clackamas Rotary Club.
  • Founding Member of the Clackamas Rotary Foundation.
  • Director of the North Clackamas School Board for 8 years.
In addition to providing estate administration services to help those who are hurting from the loss of loved ones, Bill is currently increasing his focus to provide retirement and estate planning services.  He is married to his lovely wife, Janice and they live in Happy Valley.  They both enjoy spending time with family and involve themselves in various Christian ministries.  Bill has two daughters who teach in Phoenix, Arizona elementary schools.  Above all, it is Bill’s purpose to serve the Lord with the gifts he has been blessed with.

Fees/Admission:
The RSVP meal charge is $20 for Guests, Expired Members. The Non-RSVP meal charge is $25 at the Door.  Members must RSVP in order to register at no charge.  Members may also invite Guests, wherein if they RSVP, the meal charge is only $20 per person. If they do not RSVP for their Guest, the meal charge for their Guest is $25 per person.
