Event Description:

Brain-Stirring! Learn to use your brains for creativity and innovation!

Most companies turn to traditional group brainstorming any time they need a new idea. Unfortunately, the brain research consistently shows that there is one problem with  that........it doesn't work! If the goal is to get more and better ideas, companies would actually be better off if they never did group brainstorming at all! Individuals consistently out-perform traditional group brainstorming in generating creative, innovative new ideas. But, when used correctly, in Brain-stirring, groups can be the best answer.

Brain-stirring is a cutting edge alternative to traditional brainstorming. It uses the recent brain research to avoid group think, seamlessly merge individual and group creativity processes, and generate ideas that would not be accessible by brainstorming. It is also a ton of fun!

Join "Brain Coach Brad" Brad Pendergraft, founder of Lifetime Optimization for a 30 minute presentation during the Christian Chamber Northwest - Portland Westside Meeting at 7:30am on Brainstorming and Brain-stirring to learn how to use the discoveries from brain research to make your company more creative and innovative.

Then come to this special one-hour interactive workshop experience and be one of the companies to engage in a live Brain-stirring experience. Participate in the process, learn to prime your brain for creativity, use random inputs, and come up with implementable ideas that will startle and engage you. If you don't have a current business problem, stay anyway and participate, sharing your creative input to help your colleagues solve real issues in their companies. Learn how to use your brain for creativity and innovation!

Although this goes against popular practice, it starts to make sense when we start to think about how the brain filters information and responds to subtle cues. In traditional group brainstorming, all ideas are shared aloud, so the first idea creates a frame, or a "priming" that instantly affects everyone in the room. It creates a filter for later ideas. Participants aren't aware of how their ideas are subtly affected by everything that comes before. Additionally, group dynamics decrease the effectiveness of group brainstorming. Subtle non-verbal cues can create an unintentional environment of "group think." We don't realize this, because traditional group brainstorming is good at one thing - creating good feelings and the perception that good ideas have been generated. And that may be true, but, in research settings, it is consistently not the best ideas.
