Al Houghton of Word at Work Ministries grew up in a small town in Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri and joined the Navy as a pilot. After flying 161 combat reconnaissance missions during Vietnam, he left the military to fly commercially but God dramatically intervened and called him into ministry. Like King David did, he imparts a zeal for justice and a heart for spiritual battle.
Al’s current assignment is elevating the church into their kingly priesthood as “agents of justice.” Many free nations stand at the crossroads of judgment or salvation, based on choices made. By invoking the covenant of “Sure Mercy,” the church can impact those choices. Only a vibrant church who knows their covenant can confront political leaders in the power of the Spirit. Saving the nation means awakening the church to the power of their covenantal roots. Al’s part is igniting the church out of passivity into greater levels of spiritual vitality!
After graduating college, he moved to Southern California to attend seminary and earned a Master of Divinity Degree. Upon graduation, the Lord opened doors to begin a teaching ministry and live by faith. Al and his wife Jayne have three children, Jonathan –who has his JD, Julie - who is Al’s personal assistant in the ministry, and Michael – who is a fireman.
A daily Bible study, entitled the “Word at Work,” is in its thirtieth year and has been a springboard for prophetic teachings that have developed into several books. Converts & Disciples, Purifying The Altar and Marked Men lay a foundation for The Sure Mercies of David and his most recent book, Jesus & Justice. God has been pouring out exciting new revelation for the church in this season, and Al is in the midst of writing two more books to equip us to walk in God's fullness. Salt & Light and God's Layered Love are in the works and when finished will be Jesus' promised fullness and authority to project His standard of righteousness in an increasingly hostile world. These teachings offer an answer and path to reclaim the boldness and power of the early church!
